Package stores blame alcohol tax for sales slump

alcohol_sales_taxMassachusetts' new sales tax on alcohol is helping to pull the Commonwealth slowly out of  a long revenue slump, but local package store owners say it’s doing some serious damage to their bottom lines. Store owners say sales are down by substantial margins and angry customers are heading north to buy their beer, wine and spirits.

Newburyport defeats Scrooge

brasslyonEconomic woes seem to not have defeated holiday spirit in Newburyport this year. Retailers and others are flying high following what is being described as the most successful Invitation Night ever in Newburyport on Dec. 4th. And the Maritime Society reported that bids are flying high in its annual wreath auction.
