Massachusetts' new sales tax on alcohol is helping to pull the Commonwealth slowly out of a long revenue slump, but local package store owners say it’s doing some serious damage to their bottom lines. Store owners say sales are down by substantial margins and angry customers are heading north to buy their beer, wine and spirits.

Economic woes seem to not have defeated holiday spirit in Newburyport this year.
